About the Project

The Bauer Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Bauer name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Bauer name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Bauer's), by time period (18th Century Bauer's), or by topic (Bauer DNA, Bauer Occupations, Bauer Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

I have a Chretien Bauer, the son of Vigeant Bauer and Catherine Ablin. He was a Chasseurs stationné au Canada, protégeant la frontière du Québec.

I have the Bauer family from Germany to Tasmania, Australia in 1855. Some stayed with the original surname other changed to Bower. There are supposed to be 20 children of Johan Gottfried Bauer (1805-1881) and his 2 wives - Elisabetha Katherina Kallenberger (1818-1853) and Caroline Rosina Klinger (1827-1896). Can only find 16 so far.

The morphology of the Bauer name in my family is as follows : Bauer/Bower,Bower,Baur,Paur,Pur and finally Bur. The first Bauer in our family was Moses Bauer who arrived in America from the Bavarian region of Germany in 1753 and promptly changed the spelling to Bower. My maternal grandfather Forrest Bauer changed back to the Bauer spelling. The only sibling of his father Charles Bower to do so.

I have Swiss Bauer people; has there been any kind of a connection or is there information about such a group in the Bauer Name Study?
